What makes Borgnis Street so special isn’t just the spectacular displays; it’s the extraordinary community effort behind them.
“A lot of prep goes into this each year,” says Trisha Handley, a long-time organiser of the Borgnis Street Christmas Lights.
“The street is in touch from early October to coordinate timings, performances, ice-cream trucks, coffee vans, and liaise with the fire brigade and the Rotary Club of Belrose. Residents start setting up from November 1st, working late nights and weekends, and there’s always someone offering a helping hand to a neighbour who needs it. It’s a genuine team effort, year after year.”
Supporting Bear Cottage With Every Visit
Together with the Rotary Club of Belrose, Borgnis Street raises vital funds for Bear Cottage, a dedicated children’s hospice providing end-of-life care and respite for families navigating the unimaginable. With operating costs exceeding $4 million a year, Bear Cottage relies heavily on community fundraising, and Borgnis Street has become one of its brightest annual supporters.

Last year alone, the display raised $56,300. Donation buckets are placed throughout the street, and tap-and-go stations offer an easy, cashless way to give. Anything over $2 is tax-deductible, and every single donation truly makes a difference.
The Perfect Way to Get Into the Christmas Spirit
This year, the excitement is bigger than ever. Visitors can look forward to Stage Art’s live carols (date to be revealed!), Carols with Denis, ice-cream vans, a weekend coffee truck, and the always-popular fire station visit, complete with Santa, fire trucks, and their legendary sausage sizzle.
Borgnis Street isn’t just a dazzling display of lights; it’s a living example of what community can achieve when people show up, get involved, and share a little joy and kindness. Come along, share in the atmosphere, and help support Bear Cottage this festive season. It’s community Christmas spirit shining at its brightest.
