The whole family can enjoy a Saturday morning outing to St Ives Showground for a new Farmer’s Market opening June 4. It will feature fresh organic produce, artisan wares, a bouncy castle, coffee and food stalls – and it’s right next to one of Sydney’s best playgrounds!
If you love meandering around a good market, get your shopping bags ready and rug up for the winter launch of the St Ives Farmer’s Market, featuring an incredible range of organic and artisan products.
The St Ives Farmer’s Market will be a weekly open air market, and it’s run by the Organic Food Markets group, who will build on the success of their other popular fresh produce markets here on the Northern Beaches, in Mosman and in the city.
On the food side, there will be several large fresh fruit & vegetable stalls plus coffee, bread, bagels, donuts, cheeses, olives, pizzas, sausages, eggs & bacon, pies, tarts, and gozleme. There will also be stalls for fashion, homewares, plants and sustainable and healthy products.
Organiser Stephen Choularton says after several years of renovations, it’s the market event that locals have been waiting for.
“There was a long standing craft market in the Showground for many years which closed after the owner passed away some years ago,” he says.
“The showground has been undergoing a major upgrade for a couple of years with the creation of the Treetop Experience and a major playground. This work was completed last year leaving the showground open for a weekly farmers market.”
The location is great for families, and there will be a bouncy castle for the children, and dogs on lead are welcome too!
“St Ives is a natural location for a farmers market with a high population interested in good food. The showground is a real ‘country showground’ with everything from pony club to treetop walks,” says Stephen.
There’s also plenty of parking on site, making it an easy trip for everyone.
Stephen adds that there is a secret to the success of an outdoor organic farmers market. “We try to provide what the public want: an outdoor shopping experience in an environment where people can know their suppliers and socialise with them and their fellow customers at the market; plus fresh food and tasty treats!”
