Harbord Diggers is once again gearing up to host its annual ANZAC Day commemorations, complete with a march and wreath-laying ceremony, followed by the largest game of 2-Up in the area.
Pay your respects and reflect on the contributions of past and present servicemen and women, who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country at Harbord Diggers this ANZAC Day, April 25, 2025.
Starting at 8am on the Ocean Terrace, attendees will be invited to participate in a solemn march and wreath-laying ceremony to honour the sacrifices made by all Australian and New Zealand service personnel, from World War I to the present day.
At the completion of the commemorations, Harbord Diggers will then begin its yearly tradition – the Northern Beaches’ biggest 2-Up game. From 12pm to 6pm, locals will be granted access to the picturesque 2-Up ring overlooking scenic Freshwater.
As always, the event will be overseen by the Diggers’ favourite MC, Matty V Vandenbergh, back to run the ring for another year. Under his expert guidance, the game of 2-Up takes on an air of ritual, bringing the community together in solidarity with those who have payed the ultimate price.
Illegal on every other day of the year, 2-Up and is seen as a nod to our serviceman. According to the ABC, the diggers used to play it during World War 1 to relieve boredom. There certainly won’t be any boredom at our own Diggers on the day. “The annual ritual delivers an unrivalled atmosphere as thousands gather around Australia’s most picturesque two-up ring on the stunning Freshwater headland.”
Harbord Diggers’ popular eateries will offer great dining options on the day, including Teddy Larkins, Bau Truong, DD Collective – or order from any of these when dining on the Ocean Terrace.
Entry tickets to the event are $10 per person, a portion of which will be donated to Veterans’ charities for the continued support of our returning service personnel. Previous years’ donations have raised up to $50,000 for charities such as Wounded Heroes, who work to support veterans in their recovery and rehabilitation.
