Palm Beach has a new arrival, with a stunning new daytime bar already bringing plenty of flavour and good energy to the northern end of Barrenjoey Road.
Taking over the former Coast Café space in Palm Beach is Bar Mandys, a brand new Middle Eastern daytime bar that opened its doors last weekend.
The work of Hila, Mandy, Felix and Lachie, Bar Mandys is the kind of place that immediately feels welcoming. The team is warm, smiley and clearly having the best time bringing their vision to life, with a real sense of excitement around everything they have created.
Inspired by the relaxed, social style of Mediterranean living, Bar Mandys has been created as a place to spend time with yourself, friends or the local community. The space is just as inviting, with a beautiful fit-out flooded with Palm Beach sunshine. It is the sort of spot where you can imagine settling in for breakfast, stretching lunch out a little longer or catching up over a drink. With outdoor umbrellas on the way, it is only going to get better as the warmer months arrive.
Meet the Team Behind Bar Mandys
Behind the beautiful space is a team with experience across hospitality and design, each bringing their own strengths, creativity and ideas to the table. There is something particularly lovely about watching a group of people who clearly care about what they are creating, and the energy between them is a big part of what makes Bar Mandys feel so welcoming.
The opening weekend was a big one, with the team describing the response as “incredibly encouraging” and saying it was exciting to see familiar local faces alongside plenty of new ones.
Their hope is for the venue to become part of the “everyday” life of Palm Beach, whether that means grabbing a daily coffee, enjoying breakfast in the sun, settling in for a long lunch or catching up over a drink.
And it is a beautiful place to do exactly that. Just steps from Sandy Beach Reserve, Bar Mandys is perfectly positioned for a proper sit-down, soak-it-all-up kind of morning or lunch.
Takeaway is there too, whether it is coffee and breakfast before a walk or something delicious to take down towards the sand.
A Fresh Flavour for Palm Beach
The food is colourful, fresh and full of flavour, with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food at the heart of everything Bar Mandys does. This is a cuisine the team is deeply passionate about, and they are excited to share those flavours with Palm Beach. Currently there are 3-4 menu items to choose from for brekkie and then lunch.
Breakfast starts with the cheese and green olive Bureka Pastry served with hummus or tahini, alongside the Classic Breakfast with eggs, sourdough, labneh, matbucha and pickles.
For lunch, the OG Falafel is packed with cabbage, tomato, pickles, chilli, tahini and amba, while the Shawarma brings spiced chicken together with hummus, cabbage, pickles, chilli, tahini and amba. The Eggplant is another delicious option, pairing fried eggplant and boiled egg with hummus, salad, cabbage, pickles, chilli, tahini and amba.
Then there are the drinks. Coffee can easily turn into a glass of wine, an Asahi on tap or a margarita, with wines from Australia, France, Italy and Spain.
The team describes Bar Mandys as a place for “good food, good drinks and an easygoing atmosphere that feels at home”, and it really is that simple. They have absolutely nailed it.
There’s Plenty More To Come
The team has already poured an enormous amount of work, creativity and heart into bringing Bar Mandys to life, and it’s just the beginning. Looking ahead to summer, they are developing an extended hours tapas menu, with plans for cold draught beer, cocktails, wine between mates and plates made for sharing throughout those long, sunny Palm Beach days.
For now, though, there is plenty to enjoy. Bar Mandys is fresh, welcoming, delicious and backed by a team who clearly care deeply about what they are creating.
It is exactly the kind of new offering Palm Beach has been waiting for.
