Café Lovat Newport is new from the Lovat team and is quickly gaining brunch fans on Barrenjoey Road. Did we mention their morning menu is amazing…
Lovat is a name well-known on the Northern Beaches. Restaurant Lovat at Newport has been wowing the community since 2019, with its beautiful interiors and Instagram-worthy dishes. Rather than further expansion however, the convenient location and great dining reputation at Lovat Newport meant it just made sense to open as a breakfast and brunch spot for mornings.
“We wanted to create a place where the Newport community could enjoy thoughtful meals and a welcoming atmosphere, something fun and approachable but still reflecting the quality and creativity people know from our dinner service,” says Manager, Albany.

Breakfast With A Creative Touch on Classics
The breakfast menu they’ve created is nothing short of amazing, and already creating quite a buzz. If you love heading out for a cafe-made meal in the mornings, put this venue on your list asap. We covered as much as we could on our visit but can’t wait to go back to try more! Here’s the lowdown:
The house-made granola comes with coconut yoghurt and divine roasted pineapple, while the indulgent but health-conscious Pistachio Acai Bowl comes with baked granny smith apples, berries, nuts and cinnamon granola.
Eggs are celebrated at Cafe Lovat, and you can have them with no less than 10 different sides to choose from – including the House Chardy Vinegar Hashbrown, whipped fetta, Black Pudding and, for the protein lovers – Portugese Chicken. There’s also a Full English Breakfast which looks suited to fix any hangover, but may well require a long beach walk (or an afternoon nap) afterwards.

Cafe Lovat also serves pastries from award-winning Tuga Pastries, including the famed Pastel de Nata, which is hand-pressed and handmade from a family recipe tracing back to Lisbon.
Trendy dishes, such as the Creme Brulee French Toast and the Burrata on Brioche, are already making waves online for good reason.
“Our Burrata on Brioche is actually going viral. We present it with our own take,” Albany shares.
There’s definitely something to be said for the artistry in Cafe Lovat’s dishes. The smashed avo on toast with beetroot hummus, cherry tomatoes, whipped feta, zucchini, za’atar, dukkah, soft herbs, lemon, and rye bread is bright, fresh, and layered with colours and delicious textures.

Drinks are equally inviting. Coffee comes from The Little Marionette, a Sydney roastery celebrated for its careful hand-roasting and flavour-first approach. Coffee lovers are going to enjoy experimenting here, with some intriguing new ways to have your morning brew – like the Jaffa Cold Brew, the Pistachio Velvet, and a Dulce Latte.
There are the reliable classics, too: lattes, flat whites and cappuccinos for anyone wanting a no-fuss coffee, and fresh juices such as the Immunity and Go Green.

A Space That Feels Open and Welcoming
It may be on busy Barrenjoey Road, but the café itself feels calm and inviting. High ceilings and an open layout give a sense of space and light, while large windows look out onto greenery, letting you feel connected to the outdoors.
Outdoor seating curves gently around the front, perfect for a morning coffee or a leisurely brunch where you can watch Newport coming to life.
“We designed the space to be alive, welcoming, and a little bit of a cultural spot for everyone, a place that can grow with the community rather than stay fixed in one way,” says Albany.

Coastal Walks and A Community Hub
With the beautiful Newport to Bilgola Coastal Walk nearby, plenty of scenic spots, and Bert Payne Children’s Park just around the corner, Café Lovat is a spot with something for everyone. Outdoor seating is dog-friendly too, so you can bring your furry friend along and enjoy the morning together.
While breakfast is the exciting new focus, there’s more to come from team Lovat.
“We’re working on new dishes for dinner, too, small plates, share plates, and fresh concepts for everyone,” Albany explains.
Seasonal menu additions, community events and collaborations are also in the works, so stay tuned for even more from this local gem!
