The season of spookiness is upon us. If you’re craving a frightfully fun way to celebrate Halloween while supporting a charitable cause, check out the Haunted House Immersive Exhibition.

Residents at The Brick in Allambie Heights are transforming their home into a bone-chilling event that will send shivers down your spine while raising funds for Stewart House.

Artist and event organiser, Denise Stanley says the idea came about when one of her piano students mentioned he was surprised she didn’t have any Halloween decorations up last year, especially since she grew up in the States.

“This challenged me to do better this year, I just can’t be letting my piano students down like that!” says Denise. “If I am going to do something, I want to do it right. I started designing my ultimate Halloween party last year and one thing lead to another.  My friends mentioned that I was putting too much effort in to the occasion for it just being a one night party. That’s when I decided to bring a couple of other artists on board to turn the one night party into a three-day fundraising event.”

Denise says what makes the project unique is that as a group of artists, they aim to keep the installations original, designing their own props using recycled, gifted and refurbished objects to create the scenes.

“As an American who moved to Australia over 20 years ago, it’s been interesting to watch my favourite holiday as a kid growing up in California develop into the phenomenon of what it now has become in Australia,” says Denise.

“This year, Halloween is shaping up to be bigger than it ever has been in Australia, but I don’t want to see it be just about the commercialisation. Donating all profits to charity and creating our own props demonstrates our efforts towards authenticity.”

A scary affair

From October 31st to November 2nd, The Brick will open its haunted doors for three nights of eerie entertainment. For just a $20 donation, you’ll gain entry to a spine-tingling adventure filled with creepy installations, spooky soundtracks, and a plethora of surprises. But this event isn’t just about getting your scare on—it’s also about making a difference.

All profits will benefit Stewart House, a registered charity that provides essential support to public school children on the Northern Beaches through a rejuvenating programme filled with medical care, educational excursions and emotional enrichment at a safe haven next to Curl Curl beach.

As NSW public education’s charity of choice, Stewart House has been providing care since 1931 for children-in-need from all parts of NSW and the ACT. The Vision of Stewart House is to enable all the children who come to have a wide range of rich and rewarding experiences, be inspired to see beyond their present circumstances and have real hope and positive aspirations for their future.
