With its beautiful fit-out, fresh seafood dishes and weekly lobster and oyster specials, Fish Face at Balgowlah is making a splash on the local foodie list of must-try restaurants…

Fish Face, a fresh and exciting addition to the Northern Beaches seafood scene, has been making waves since its opening last year. Whether you want to drop in for a plate of oysters at the interactive oyster bar, a sumptuous seafood platter at the communal table or a cocktail in the sun, Fish Face offers plenty of places to enjoy the fresh flavours of the sea.

Creator of Fish Face’s Menu, Adam Rust

The Balgowlah restaurant is a partnership between owners Shahid Rahman and Anna Walker, who also operate the beloved Little Viet Kitchen in Manly. It also offers a menu created by chef Adam Rust (Harbord Hotel and 12-Micron) who grew up on the Beaches. It was through his love of surfing locally that he developed a passion for capturing ocean flavours and thoughtfully delivering them on a plate.

The design of Fish Face, executed flawlessly by Five Foot One Design, encapsulates the restaurant’s vision of a fresh and vibrant seafood destination. The colour palette speaks to the beauty of the ocean featuring lobster red, deep ocean blue, sandy beige and crisp clean white, while the skilful use of textures and captivating lighting complements the fresh ocean flavours served at Fish Face.

“We chose Balgowlah as the location of Fish Face because of the vibrant community and the potential to bring fresh and exciting seafood offerings to the area,” says Anna. “We love the community feel and especially the scenery of the trees located around Fish Face. We love seeing families dine with us, where the parents can enjoy a glass of wine in hand, in our alfresco dining area and watch their kids play in the plaza area.”

What really sets Fish Face apart, according to Anna, is its unwavering commitment to providing fresh seafood daily. Adam has an extensive network of suppliers and buyers, so he keeps a keen eye on seasonality and supply, ensuring the restaurant serves only the finest Australian and New Zealand sourced seafood, both wild and farmed.

Fish Face also proudly features ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) certified farmed products among its menu staples, emphasising their commitment to sustainability. There’s also a dedicated gluten-free and coeliac menu.

“The must-try items on Fish Face’s menu are the snapper and prawn pie and the seafood platter,” says Anna.

The show stopping platter includes a half dozen natural oysters, ceviche, salt and pepper squid, scallops, mussels, battered fish and roasted bugs with signature chips, sauces and fresh lemon. Additionally, Fish Face offers an impressive selection of raw and cured share plates, grilled or battered fish and chips, pan-roasted whole market fish, and steak frites.

Fish Face also delights locals with a range of enticing weekly specials including:

Aimed to match the delicacy of the cuisine, the drinks menu spans both local and abroad offerings including classic cocktails, Northern Beaches beers and Italian wines.
