From a full moon picnic, to fabulous food, live performance and more, celebrate all things Avalon, Whale Beach and Palm Beach this week with the fabulous Deep North Festival.
The world’s prettiest Peninsular is about to host something extraordinary. From 5–7 December, Avalon, Whale Beach, and Palm Beach will transform into a vibrant, living stage for music, art, film, food, and community. This is The Deep North Festival – a three-day cultural celebration where coastline meets creativity.
The festival opens on Friday 5 December from 4pm with a Full Moon Picnic. Bring a picnic blanket and enjoy a world-class concert featuring William Barton whose spellbinding compositions on yidaki/didgeridoo fuse ancient sound and modern storytelling to mark a breathtaking beginning to the weekend.

At the centre of the festival stands The Town Tent – the cultural heartbeat of Avalon and the soul of the weekend. A 450-person coastal concert hall, it’s where the peninsula gathers to celebrate music, connection, and collective joy.
Across the weekend, the Town Tent will host a world-class line-up of artists, authors and musicians spanning from classical to jazz, and Indigenous to world music. Each performance will transform the tent into something new – from intimate recitals to late-night sonic journeys – making it the undeniable heartbeat of The Deep North.
On Friday 5th Mia Burlinson takes the stage. Mia is a singer-songwriter whose ethereal soundscapes and angelic vocals transport listeners on a profound inner journey.

On Saturday 6 December, the tent belongs to Meg Washington – Australia’s multi-award-winning alt-pop icon, taking centre stage for a performance that promises to define the sound of summer.
The Deep North’s creative energy extends far beyond the stage. Conversations featuring environmental pioneer Bob Brown and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Geraldine Brooks will offer an unmissable meeting of minds – exploring the stories, futures, and environmental truths shaping our world.
Avalon’s laneways, RSL, Bowling Club, and rooftops will pulse into the night with DJs and live sets from Sydney’s most in-demand selectors: Sam La More, Bentley, DJ DT, Rob Madden, and Kid Kenobi – curated to carry the Deep North rhythm from dusk ‘til late.
Meanwhile, classical and world music will appear in unexpected places, brought to life by The Bowerbird Collective, weaving intimate performances across the Peninsula.
Across the weekend, health, wellness, surf, and skate sessions will roll through the beaches – led by local legends and global names, connecting community through movement, mindfulness, and music.
Families are also front and centre, with a stacked program for little legends, including:
- Super Silly Seaside Circus performances
- Tug of War, bands, and treasure hunts at the Royal Avalon Clubhouse
- Scoopanova Ice Creams and Hugh Peachey Family Photos in Patterson Lane

Families should book now for Super Silly Seaside Circus.
