If you’ve had a gut full of feeling unhealthy, it’s time to chat with local queen of all things nutrition and gut health, Nuala McBride from The Nutritious Way.
Nuala McBride knows from personal experience just how much an unhappy gut can affect your life. Her own path to becoming a registered nutritionist was driven by her experiences living with and receiving a diagnosis of Coeliac Disease.
“I had battled with IBS-type symptoms since I was a teenager, but I couldn’t find the answers as to what was causing it. I saw multiple doctors who diagnosed and prescribed a whole host of things. But, I never felt they got to the root cause,” she recalls.
“It wasn’t until I found this great new doctor who connected all my symptoms straight away and referred me to a gastroenterologist to confirm the root cause was Celiac disease.”

This difficult personal journey to improved health is one of the many things that motivated Nuala to create a more holistic, multi-faceted approach to overall wellbeing.
“Things like Coeliac can present in many odd ways, so it really takes people like nutritionists or doctors to take an interest and join the dots accurately to create the full picture,” she says.
In addition to her personal interest in gut health and managing chronic gut conditions like Coeliac Disease, Nuala has also discovered through her studies that gut health can be the cornerstone of most people’s overall health and wellbeing, even in the absence of any other formal diagnoses.
“Gut health is foundational to overall well-being—it’s not just about digestion!” she says.
“Your gut is home to trillions of microbes that help regulate everything from your immune system.- 70% of the immune system stems from the gut, to your mental health with 90% of serotonin produced in the gut.”
When asked what signs people should look out for that might suggest their guts aren’t as happy as they should be, Nuala says it can vary greatly.
“Some really common signs of poor gut health are things like:
- Frequent bloating, gas, constipation or diarrhoea
- Persistent fatigue or brain fog
- Skin complaints like acne or eczema
- Food cravings, particularly for sugary or highly processed foods
- Weakened immunity and recurring illness
- A general feeling of weakness due to a lack of nutrient absorption
- Hormone imbalances
- Menstrual cycle issues.”
Nuala offers consultations both via video call or in person at her clinic locations at Akasha Integrated Health in Manly and Luxe Yoga & Fitness in Brookvale. In addition to her popular Gut Reboot and Power Up Your Gut Packages, she can assist with meal planning and one-on-one nutrition coaching.

“My Three Pillars of Optimal Gut Health are really the foundation for everything – Probiotics, Prebiotics and Diversity. When your gut is balanced and thriving, you’ll likely notice better energy levels, clearer skin, improved mood, and fewer digestive complaints like bloating or constipation.”
“I like to think of my services as a map. People come to me knowing where they are and where they want to be, but they need a personalised, more efficient way of getting there than just sifting through all the generic online advice. Through my 1:1 consultations, I work closely with clients to create tailored, actionable plans and provide ongoing support to help them stay on track and achieve their health goals.”
