Join us in congratulating much-loved local preschool Jack & Jill on seven decades of service to 1000s of families in the community. The secret to their success – it’s child’s play!

It takes a special kind of business to successfully span 70 years, and Jack & Jill Kindergarten will need no introduction to many as a result. Past parents and students from their Mona Vale and Mosman centres have watched the much-loved preschool being nurtured over the years by three generations of the same family.

It’s incredible to think Jack & Jill has provided a home-like atmosphere for children to grow and develop since 1954. It was founded by Mosman resident, Betty Triglone, who recognised a need for a kindergarten in the local community. For a small fee, she would pick up the neighbourhood children, care for them during work hours and return them home after 3pm.

“The kindergarten grew, and Betty developed the current Mona Vale site with her ideas of a garden setting, open green spaces and pre-school education which have been expanded on to this day,” tells Betty’s granddaughter and current manager of the services – Wendy Moyle.

From its humble beginnings in the rear of Mona Vale’s Methodist Church, Jack & Jill now provides quality care and education to children aged 18 months to 6 years across both the Mosman and Northern Beaches locations. The service operates Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 6pm and has purpose-designed learning environments.

“The family of Jack and Jill continue to honour Mrs Triglone’s vision of creating a home-like atmosphere with beautiful gardens and light-filled learning environments with extensive quality resourcing,” Wendy says.

Jack & Jill’s child-centred program is based on the principles outlined in the NSW curriculum framework and the National Early Years Learning framework (EYLF), “Belonging, Being and Becoming”. This program is a balance of indoor and outdoor experiences, which stimulate and provide for the development of each child’s social, physical, emotional, and intellectual potential.

“At Jack and Jill, we encourage children in the joy of learning through play-based learning, music, literacy and art,” Wendy explains. “We support children to think independently, problem solve and respect others, their culture and background.”

The talented team of childhood educators design and implement the program around the individual interest of each child. They also recognise “families to be the child’s first educator and support families in a caring, encouraging, and informative manner.”
