A new restaurant and bar in Manly has brought in the big guns: a Michelin-star chef.
Masahiko Yomoda, or Chef Yomo as he’s known, has appeared on MasterChef Australia. In season 13, he taught contestants how to prepare a traditional Japanese bento box. This masterclass (see video below) has now been viewed over seven million times.
Chef Yomo has been the director of Yakiniku and Shabushabu restaurants in Chatswood, and now, he can be found at Manly’s newest cocktail bar and restaurant.
Taking over the old Sugar Lounge on North Steyne is new cocktail bar and restaurant, Nikkita. It’s the second hospitality venue for Constanza Henriquez (also known as Cony), who owns South American tapas and cocktail bar Cony’s in Cronulla.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have Chef Masahiko Yomoda leading the kitchen at Nikkita,” says Cony. “Masahiko’s background is truly world-class—he has worked in several Michelin-starred restaurants and brings with him an exceptional understanding of both Japanese and international cuisines.”
While there are plenty of Japanese restaurants in Manly, and previously the Peruvian-inspired diner Loco Madre, we don’t remember this type of cuisine ever being available in Manly.

“After the success of bar Cony’s in Cronulla, I wanted to create something new in Manly—something that would complement the beautiful beachside location while offering a unique fusion of flavours.”
“Nikkita is that perfect blend of my South American roots with a modern Japanese twist. Capturing the energy of the ocean right outside its doors and the warmth inside. It’s not just a restaurant, it’s an experience, from the lively dishes to the welcoming ambiance.”
Foodies in the know might’ve picked up on the similarities between the venue’s name and ‘Nikkei’ the name given to Peruvian and Japanese fusion cuisine.

“At Nikkita, we celebrate the fusion of Peruvian and Japanese flavours—two cuisines that naturally complement each other,” says Cony. “A standout dish has to be our Ceviche Rojo. It’s a fresh, bold combination of snapper, citrus, and aji panca—a Peruvian chilli pepper that adds depth and warmth.”
“Another favourite is the Poached Lobster, served with Sopa de Choclo, a creamy Peruvian corn soup, and furikake, which adds a Japanese umami touch. For meat lovers, our Angus Beef Rump Cap with roast bone marrow and Yuzu Kosho jus offers a savoury richness, bringing together the best of both culinary worlds. Each dish is carefully crafted to evoke a sense of adventure and home all at once.”
While the food is on another level, community is at the heart of what Cony and her team have created with Nikkita.
“Nikkita is all about connection—whether that’s connecting with the people you’re dining with or connecting to the diverse cultures represented in the dishes. It’s a place where you can relax, enjoy fresh and innovative cuisine, and be a part of a vibrant, welcoming environment.”

“We’ve poured our heart into every detail, from the menu to the cocktails, to create a space that feels both sophisticated and personal. Whether you’re here for a casual lunch or a special dinner, we want you to feel like you’ve discovered something truly unique.”
For the month of September, Nikkita is offering $15 cocktails every Wednesday. “So it’s a perfect time to come by, relax, and enjoy some of our signature drinks,” says Cony. “And starting in October, we’ll be launching our highly anticipated bottomless brunch, which will be an exciting way to enjoy a leisurely weekend by the beach.
“Plus, we have many more surprises planned as we settle into our new home.”
