Get out of your head and into your hands at the Beaches’ newest pottery studio.

Remember those creative DIY pottery kits that filled your Instagram feed during the pandemic? Well, good news for crafty folk (and anyone looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon)! Insta-famous pottery studio, Crockd is setting up shop in Fairlight, in the old Groomingdales on Sydney Road.

The Fairlight studio is about to open, just in time for the July school holidays. The Crockd team are busy painting and putting their final touches on the space, but if it’s anything like their Neutral Bay studio, we can expect soft peachy-pink interiors, cool neon signs, and warm glowing candlelight.

Crockd’s approach to pottery encourages people to ‘get out of their heads and into their hands’. This relaxed attitude to creating has seen them cultivate a loyal following. Their welcoming studios are all about focusing on the creative process rather than the end product. Their classes and courses are a low-stakes way to create, unwind, and bond with your partner, friends or family.

The studio offers a variety of workshops, all priced under $100. Each workshop lasts two hours, giving you plenty of time to learn new skills and create something unique to take home. De-stress with the Sip n’ Sculpt class on Friday nights, where you can enjoy a glass of wine (BYO) while you mould your very own creations.

The Glow in the Dark limited edition beginner wheel-throwing sessions are a lot of fun. Be quick to book these are they only run once a month. During this workshop, you’ll spend two hours honing your skills on the wheel while immersed in neon lights and glowing clay.

Crockd also offers introductory classes for pottery newbies. Learn the basics of wheel throwing in the Wheel Throwing Taster Class on Sunday mornings, or get your hands dirty with the fam at their Family Taster Pottery workshops. If you’ve tried wheel or hand pottery before and felt utterly defeated and intimidated, Crockd is for you! Patient instructors provide clear, step-by-step guidance, and gently nudge you to curb any perfectionist tendencies. With the pressure off, you might surprise yourself at how good your creations turn out.

For the kids, there’s a 10-week After School Pottery Club where kids will learn the best of wheel throwing and hand building, school holiday workshops, and family classes on Sunday afternoons. Every class allows you to create your own unique clay keepsake, which will be fired for you for free in their on-site kiln.

So if you’re looking for something creative to do, head over to Crockd’s new Fairlight studio. It’s a fantastic place to switch off, learn a new skill, and create something special.
