NASH + BANKS

Anytime is the best time to shop sustainably and ethically, and with Christmas coming up locals can shop with purpose at Avalon’s beautiful store NASH + BANKS.

Get your Christmas list together and head to the Northern Beaches’ luxury store NASH + BANKS for ethical goods and gifts this year. Their flagship store in Avalon offers a rolling curation of ethical and sustainable brands from passionate business owners. Celebrating their one year anniversary in December, the store is an extension of their huge online following.

The shop stocks a selection of the 3500+ products they have online including home décor, beauty, accessories and gifts (with luxury gift box curation and gift wrapping services). It’s still a relative new kid on the block, but has proven to be an important step with NASH + BANKS’ ever-growing reputation as a purveyor of quality ethical products.

“We wanted to give our customers the opportunity to touch, feel and experience these amazing products in a tactical and sensory way,” says NASH + BANKS founder Niccii Kugler who previously worked for an NGO in the cloud forests of Costa Rica. “… And it gives our team the opportunity to share the incredible brand stories with our customers in a really personal way.”

Niccii dedicates lots of time to sourcing, researching and vetting products to ensure they align with at least one of the business’s eight core values: ethical, sustainable, minimal waste, vegan, upcycled, giving back, organic and artisan.

These values were also applied to the fit-out of the store, designed in collaboration with Louise Walsh Interiors, including the use of reclaimed timber, eco-friendly non-toxic paint and featured brickwork handmade with traditional artisan methods.

“Our focus is on discovering (largely Australian) brands created by passionate founders, innovators and artisans dedicated to producing ethically, sustainably and consciously,” Niccii says.

Recognisable brands like Outland Denim, Cloth & Co and Among Equals stand next to emerging Australian brands including ILIO NEMA (a sustainable fashion label that launched last October).

“Every product is chosen because it resonates with me in one way or another,” says Niccii who started the business after discovering the increasing cost of overconsumption. “I love connecting with the people behind the product and feel honoured to share their stories.”

“A few additions to the store that I am crushing on at the moment include our ESCAPE bags by Forestbound (the ultimate weekend getaway bag), the delicious Hot Chilli Oil by boutique Melbourne brand Little Greeves (YUM!), my ILIO NEMA Pollux Maxi Dress (worn as a jacket with a pair of Outland Denim ZOE’s underneath) and the scrumptious Odesse solid perfume fragrances (my pick is Deep Orchid).”

In May, NASH + BANKS launched a monthly Meet-The-Maker series where artisans share their stories and skills with the community. Past events include Whiskey & Leather nights with artisan shoemaker Atelier Stefani and The Balvenie to a Trunk Show where hatmaker Laura Hall from PHYLLi Designs made custom hats for customers.

And on Sunday 4th December from 2pm they celebrate their first birthday at the flagship store, so keep an eye on socials for party information. They’re also launching corporate and curated gifting which will be super helpful at this time of year!

Visit NASH + BANKS’ Avalon shop to browse and discover at your leisure and if anything catches your eye, the team are happy to share the story behind that product with you. Customers can also explore their full range of products online, where $2 from every sale gets donated in partnership with i=Change to support life-changing projects on women’s empowerment and the environment.
