Set beside the calm waters of Clareville Beach, The Clareville is housed in a weatherboard cottage that has quietly served the area since the 1960s.
Once home to the local post office and general store, the building has gently evolved over the decades, carrying its history gently through every corner, adding to the warmth and calm of the space. More than forty years later, The Clareville stands as a beautiful and thoughtful dining destination, where time seems to slow the moment you arrive.

Flavours Refined by Experience
Now, under the thoughtful care of Chef Cooper Dickson, the venue has entered a new chapter that honours its past while embracing the freshest local flavours. Today, the restaurant offers a relaxed and deeply considered dining experience shaped with attention to detail and respect for the space. The atmosphere welcomes everyone, whether arriving from just down the road or discovering Clareville for the first time. There is an immediate sense of calm that sets the tone for what unfolds at the table.
Dickson brings more than two decades of experience from kitchens across Australia and overseas, including time as head chef at Capella Lodge on Lord Howe Island. Perhaps the way of island life, with its strong connection to and reliance on the resources available, has influenced his approach to food, the care, balance, and seasonality evident in the plates at The Clareville. Each dish reflects that quiet respect for ingredients, where freshness, texture, and subtlety come together in a way that feels thoughtful and unforced.

Food Guided by Surroundings and Seasons
The menu at The Clareville feels intentional and balanced, allowing quality ingredients to lead the experience. Seafood and produce are treated with care, guided by what is fresh and in season, with each dish offering depth of flavour without unnecessary complexity. Opening plates such as rock oysters, served either natural with lemon or dressed with cucumber, apple, jalapeno, and dill crème, set a bright and refreshing tone. Roasted scallops with miso butter, corn, and furikake bring warmth and savoury richness, while the potato gnocchi with pumpkin, goat curd, local honey, hazelnuts, saltbush, nashi, and brown butter delivers comfort and balance in every bite.
For heartier moments, the grain fed sirloin with creamed leek, roast mushrooms, kohlrabi, smoked marrow, and soft herbs reflects the same thoughtful approach. Even the panzanella salad, finished with local honey, basil, and labneh, feels deeply satisfying and considered. Dessert is equally essential, with chocolate mousse paired with liquorice ice cream, raspberry, and elderflower offering a beautiful harmony of flavours, each spoonful unfolding like a fleeting, edible artwork.
The Calm That Follows The Meal
Time spent at The Clareville often leaves a lasting impression beyond the table. The thoughtful use of ingredients and careful balance of flavours can inspire creativity in the kitchen, encouraging the exploration of new flavours and ways to make the most of what is on hand. And while The Clareville is not directly on the water, an evening stroll along Clareville Beach provides the perfect conclusion to a meal, letting the calm of the surroundings extend the sense of ease and connection that begins at the table.
