Not only has the legendary pie shop just released their Christmas special – they’ve got a beaut new courtyard on the way…

For decades, this green and gold pie shop has proudly been a cornerstone of the Beaches’ community. The Upper Crust Pie Shop in Collaroy has been serving locals since 1948, earning a reputation for golden, freshly baked pies that draw everyone from beachgoers and dog walkers to tradies and families looking for something comforting and made with care.

From early morning, the shop is alive with movement. Doors open at 7 am, ovens and a dedicated team are already working hard, and the steady rhythm of orders carries through until closing time at 4 pm on weekdays and 5 pm on weekends. The mood is busy but cheerful, with quick, friendly service and plenty of conversation flowing between staff and customers.

Favourite Pies, Shared Stories

Ask locals what keeps them coming back, and the answers are spoken with confidence. “It’s consistently good, every single time,” one customer says, holding up his Mexican pie and proudly showing off the filling inside. Another nods enthusiastically nearby, adding that the flavours always hit the mark.

Over the years, The Upper Crust has earned plenty of recognition for its pies, with awards and glowing reviews cementing its reputation well beyond Collaroy.

Some flavours have become legends in their own right. The Butter Chicken pie is a favourite for a reason: rich, comforting, and perfectly balanced, while regulars know that, as the team likes to say, “You can’t beat a Lamb & Rosemary on a Friday.”

Behind the counter, trays of golden pies are constantly replenished, shaped and baked by a smiley, well-practised team. There’s an easy familiarity here, where staff know regular orders and customers happily debate which pie deserves top spot.

A Fresh New Space on the Way

Alongside all the familiar comforts at Upper Crust, something new is taking shape. Renovations are underway, with a spacious new courtyard set to open in the first half of 2026. The addition will offer locals a place to sit, relax, and enjoy their pies on the spot, a natural extension of an already welcoming space.

“Upper Crust has been in our family for a long time, and we’re really proud of what it is,” owner Anthony shares. “We’re keeping all the things people love, but the renovation will give everyone a bit more space to sit down, relax, and enjoy their pie, and a big thanks to the locals for their patience while we’ve been getting everything ready.”

Importantly, their doors remain open throughout, with all the menu items people love still very much on offer.

Festive Pies and Sweet Treats

Right now, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at The Upper Crust. Their much-loved Turkey, and Camembert with Cranberry Sauce Pie (pictured above) has returned, available daily and in a family size until Christmas Eve. Orders can be placed in-store or over the phone at least 24 hours ahead.

Add a coffee and a hazelnut chocolate brownie, and it’s easy to see why many turn their visit into a picnic at nearby Griffith Park, Fisherman’s Beach, or Long Reef Headland.

Comforting, reliable, and full of heart, The Upper Crust continues to be a place where good food and community naturally meet, just as they always have – and soon with more room to linger over all that delicious baking!
