To support Bear Cottage and the incredible work they do, head to Harbord Diggers this Saturday July 29 for superhero craft, face painting, movies and more…

This week is Superhero Week, a time for everyone to get their cape on and raise money to support Bear Cottage in Manly. Established in 2001, Bear Cottage is the only children’s hospice in NSW providing support, respite and end-of-life care to children with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

“For the children, there is no happy ending, and no miracle cure. As heart-breaking as this is, at Bear Cottage we believe that life is for living and we help families to make the most of every day. Bear Cottage is a wonderfully uplifting and inspiring place providing the very best of specialised care. Children laugh and play here and families are encouraged to focus on creating lasting memories of special times together. We believe that life, however brief, should be enriched, enjoyed and celebrated. With your support, Bear Cottage can continue to be a home that is full of special moments and cherished memories.”

The fundraising goal this year is $250, 000, and you can follow the tally here

There are fundraisers happening all across the Beaches and it’s not too late for you, your school, your Club or your business to participate. Here are just some of the super ideas from Bear Cottage to fundraise for Superhero Week:

𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗼𝗻: Spend the day dressed as your favourite superhero fighting for “truth, justice and a better tomorrow” and collect gold coin donations at your school or workplace.

𝗜𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗮 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗜𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱𝗡𝗼𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁!: Watch the superheroes in action and ask guests to donate the cost of a ticket.

𝗧𝗮𝗽 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 ‘𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘀‘: Run a lunchtime superhero Trivia Quiz raising money at the same time.

𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗻: Pull out your best Superhero dance moves at a school disco or workplace team building!

“Here at Bear Cottage, we come across Superheroes everyday – our highly skilled staff and selfless volunteers who provide outstanding care and immeasurable comfort, our families that keep finding the strength to fight and care for their children and the brave children themselves, whose superhero qualities shine through every day. Now more than ever, our superheroes need your support.
