It’s no secret that Brookvale is a hotspot for craft breweries, bars and distilleries.

A pub crawl there can easily fill an entire day as you sample the wide range of locally made craft beers and spirits. While Brookvale has long been a popular hub, Warriewood is rapidly emerging as a new contender…

Originally farmland, Warriewood was once nicknamed ‘Glass City’ due to the sheer volume of glasshouses used for tomato farming in the area. This farming boom occurred in the 1920s when new settlers arrived and began cultivating the land.

Today, it’s known for it’s parks, wetlands, beach, and now, an up-and-coming craft beverage scene.

Opening earlier this year, Hang 10 is Warriewood’s first distillery. Its innovative approach to sustainability, has seen it already a become popular spot for locals to catch-up and unwind.

The owners, Marine Raynard and Deon Rowe have an innovative process. Crafting locally-made gin, vodka, rum and whiskey using leftover bread from local bakeries.

“Living close to Warriewood, we noticed a lack of a nice and comfortable social space and we were also keen to create work closer to home,” says Hang 10 co-founder Marine.

“Through a bit of luck and determination to find something that could suit our vision, we stumbled upon this warehouse. When it came up on a Facebook group, we jumped on the occasion to visit it and straight away knew it was the right space to bring our distillery to life.”

“So here we are, having a crack at providing a cool space for the local community and hoping everyone gets onboard. We hope by being the first distillery-brewery in Warriewood that we might create a bit of a Brookvale vibe north of the Narrabeen bridge!”

Half-Pace Brewing Company was the first brewery to open in Warriewood in May this year. Currently pouring from five taps at the Hang 10 Distillery Bar, it’s a start-up nano brewery in collaboration with Deon, the co-owner of the distillery. All beers are brewed onsite at Warriewood.

Over the course of about 12 months, Dan and Deon slowly assembled a small Brewery built from a combination of second-hand equipment and custom-built parts.

Kim and Terri, long-time residents of Warriewood, opened their brewery, inspired by their love of surfboat racing and the dwindling number of community gathering places.

Founding the Surfboat Brewery as a place for locals to socialise and reconnect. They host a range of community events, from tango to trivia and swing dancing to homebrewing classes.

Kim, who has lived in the area for over 60 years, cherishes his youthful days of surfboat racing. Everything in the brewery, from the decor to the beers on tap—is infused with local pride and nostalgia for the community’s rich heritage and ongoing traditions.

For parents, Warriewood offers plenty to be happy about: a vibrant community, the popular Rocket Ship park, tons of cafes, and easy-to-navigate streets with wide footpaths made for scooters, prams, and kids on bikes.

Plus, the opening of Vitaland’s new indoor playground makes entertaining kids on rainy days that much easier.

While Manly is consistently rated as one of the best suburbs to live in, and Brookie still takes the cake as the Beaches’ art and cultural hub, keep an eye on Warriewood as one suburb on the rise!
