Wholegreen Bakery, Sydney’s beloved 100% gluten-free and Coeliac-accredited bakery, is about to swing open the doors at its newest store in Manly, bringing its award-winning pastries and breads to the Northern Beaches community.
Founded in 2014 by Cherie Lyden, a former nutritionist turned passionate baker, Wholegreen was born from a deeply personal journey. After being diagnosed with hypothyroidism and later latent coeliac disease, and discovering that her youngest daughter also had coeliac disease and Hashimoto’s, Cherie became determined to create gluten-free food that tasted every bit as good as traditional bakes.

“Everything we make tastes delicious, is made from scratch with real ingredients, and is 100% gluten-free,” says Cherie. That ethos has earned Wholegreen national acclaim – including multiple Champion Pastry of the Year awards at the Royal Sydney Fine Food Awards, even against competitors using gluten.
With thriving cafés in Waverley, Alexandria and the Sydney CBD, and fresh sourdough now stocked in Harris Farm Markets across NSW, QLD and the ACT, the Manly expansion marks another exciting step.
“We have a lot of customers on the Northern Beaches who either drive to our stores or get home delivery, and also buy our sourdough bread from Manly Harris Farm, which is the busiest Harris Farm store for our bread,” Cherie explains.
Now there’ll be the dedicated Wholegreen Bakery store as well – and the aroma of freshly baked bread will be wafting down the Corso! Locals can expect a full range of Wholegreen’s baked goods, including its famed sourdough breads, spanakopita, slow-cooked beef pies, pork and fennel sausage rolls, lemon meringues, and Portuguese tarts.
“We make great food that just happens to be 100% gluten-free,” says Cherie. “We have an amazing range of Coeliac Accrediated baked goods, as well as fresh sandwiches showcasing our bread, and as well salads. We look forward to everyone being able to enjoy the whole experience without comprising on quality and taste. A comment we often get from anyone visiting “It’s so good, you wouldn’t know it was gluten-free”.”
The new Manly store will be the bakery’s first on the North Shore, offering takeaway service seven days a week.
“The store itself is quite small with limited seating,” Cherie notes. “I envisage a lot of takeaway. Lucky for us, there are plenty of places to sit around The Corso, as well as the beach being right there.”

And for those already dreaming of more, Cherie reveals: “We will also be opening in Neutral Bay later this year, as well as plans to open north of Manly next year.”
For the gluten-free community – and anyone who simply loves great food – Wholegreen Bakery’s arrival in Manly is truly something to savour.
