When it comes to the holiday season, there’s nothing better than the satisfaction of giving back to the community. It’s with this intention Aussie Christmas Trees is giving everyone the merriest of ways to raise money for Manly’s Royal Far West, which helps 1000s of children each year.

Back in 2018, Rowan Friend and Matthew Wheeler were selling Christmas trees from their garage in Manly and donated $1,066 to Royal Far West children’s charity and One Eighty Avalon. Given the community’s buzz after their event, the two partners decided to branch out.

Fast forward to today and Aussie Christmas Trees has created its first Christmas Market with local businesses selling Aussie made and sourced products and services. It has also brought on board five new tree suppliers to provide Blue Spruce, Douglas Firs, European Larch and Norway Spruce and freshly cut Radiata Pines.

“Both myself and Matt are hands-on types of guys, always on the lookout to try something a bit different that gives back to the local community,” Rowan explains.

“Both being English, Christmas was something we loved and looked forward to. Picking a tree was one of our highlights as a child and an experience that we look back on fondly. We wanted people to have that same experience and be able to give to a good cause at the same time.”

Why Royal Far West?

Since 1924, Royal Far West has been on a mission to help kids around the country connect to the healthcare they otherwise wouldn’t have access to. Its integrated health, education and disability services are delivered through a combination of residential (in Manly), remote and in-community programs.

Coming from a childcare background, Rowan and Matthew were impressed with the work Royal Far West does.

“We wanted to give something back to a locally based charity. Having worked in the childcare industry for over 17 years, we were aware of the positive impact Royal Far West’s work has on families around Australia,” says Rowan.

“The service Royal Far West provides is an integral part of so many families lives around Australia, offering healthcare and education to 1000’s of rural and remote families.”

How can You Buy an Aussie Christmas Tree?

Raising awareness of Royal Far West work is Aussie Christmas Trees’ main priority, as well as creating an environment where you can bring your family and walk around to choose a tree.

“We display our trees in stands so you can see their shape and get an idea of what it’s going to look like in your home,” says Rowan. “We’ll also provide you with in-depth knowledge on how to care for your tree when you get it home.”

Regardless of what you buy, 100% of tree sale profits and stallholder fees will be donated to Royal Far West. Aussie Christmas Trees’ target is to reach $10,000 in donations by the end of the event. If you’re keen to get quick dibs on a premium Christmas tree and be part of a good cause, place a pre-order now. Otherwise, visit the market starting on 29 November.
