Northern Beaches Council will begin construction this week on an important new pedestrian and cycling bridge. The project will span across Manly Lagoon between Aitken Avenue and Hinkler Park at Queenscliff.
According to Council, the new bridge will provide a vital alternative to the existing narrow path adjacent to Pittwater Road whilst improving pedestrian and cycling connections in the local area and beyond to Brookvale and Manly.
This new bridge will not only improve safety with its dedicated, shared path but also promote local accessibility. It will provide an enhanced connection to local shops, schools, playgrounds, and other recreational facilities.

Northern Beaches Council Mayor, Sue Heins said, “This new bridge is a significant step forward in our efforts to create a safer and more connected community. We are grateful for the community’s feedback and the grant funding from Transport for NSW, which has made this project possible. This project supports our local plans for a more liveable and sustainable area, encouraging healthy and active travel options.”
Parliamentary Secretary for Transport Marjorie O’Neill said, “Our Government is committed to improving active transport infrastructure in NSW. This new bridge will provide a safe and convenient pathway for cyclists and pedestrians. It will be located between Aitken Avenue and Hinkler Park to create accessible access to local amenities. This project will be great for the Northern Beaches and part of creating more well connected and accessible communities”.

In addition to the Queenscliff pedestrian bridge, Council has several other important infrastructure projects currently underway, or recently completed. These include renewing the Stuart Sommerville Bridge at Queenscliff, as part of the Newport to The Serpentine section of the Coast Walk. Other projects also include various footpath renewals across 23 suburbs.
